Scalp issues such as dandruff and psoriasis can be difficult to deal with, and if you don’t pick the right products these conditions can be further exacerbated. We’re often asked what the difference between our Dandruff Relief and Normalizing Tea Tree products are, so we have put this blog together to help you choose the right products for you.
What Causes Dandruff?
There are several different causes of dandruff, including washing your hair too much or too little, seborrhoeic dermatitis, scalp psoriasis, eczema, sensitivity to hair care products, or a yeast-like fungus called malassezia. Dry skin, however, is the most common cause of dandruff.
How Best to Treat Dandruff?
This will all depend on your current beauty regimen. Firstly, check you are using the right shampoo, always look for a natural, gentle formula free from SLS as this chemical can irritate the scalp. Don’t worry - all of our shampoos are free from SLS. Next, take note of how you wash your hair and how often. You should be massaging your scalp when you wash your hair to ensure a thorough clean but equally important is a thorough rinse. You should wash your hair every 2-3 days at the most, so if you are used to washing every day try gradually reducing the number of times a week you wash your hair.
The products we recommend from our range for treating dandruff are JĀSÖN Dandruff Relief Treatment Shampoo or 2-in-1 Treatment Relief Shampoo & Conditioner. The shampoo features the mineral sulphur and natural exfoliating salicylic acid as the active ingredients, whilst the 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner has the same active ingredient, zinc pyrithione, as the leading conventional product.
Both contain a very important ingredient for scalp health, jojoba oil. The molecular structure of jojoba oil is very similar to that of our skin’s natural sebum, which means that jojoba oil is readily accepted by the scalp and does not mess with the natural balance of oils, helping soothe the scalp, which may help treat dry scalp and dandruff issues.
We have formulated these products with different actives as different scalps react differently to the various ingredients. If one doesn’t work for you, try the other.
What About the Normalizing Tea Tree Products?
If you experience buildup on your scalp caused by bacterial or fungal infections, we recommend JĀSÖN Tea Tree Normalizing Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner. Both call upon the antibacterial and antifungal powers of Australian tea tree oil, along with purifying grapefruit extract, and calendula, hops, sage extracts and wheat germ oil to help soothe and relieve itchiness in the shampoo, and jojoba oil and aloe vera gel in the conditioner to moisturise both your scalp and hair.
